Life does not feel real right now. After spending an entire day traveling from New York, I made it to my final destination, Florence, Italy. My first time in Europe and after four days of walking an average of 20,000 steps, I can confidently say I know the streets of Florence better than I thought I would. I have a lot to cover but for now I am going to touch on three topics: food, fashion, and friends.
I have eaten at a handful of cafes (where I was introduced to the pistachio croissant) and restaurants (where spaghetti cacio e pepe had been my meal of choice). I am not a coffee drinker but I had coffee more times this week than in my entire life. It is part of the culture here and I feel like a local when I order a cappuccino and a croissant at a cafe.
Shopping is my weakness and since I am living in the leather capital of the world for the next three months, I had to treat myself to a nice purse. There are markets on the weekends which are fun to explore as well. The fashion here is unlike anything I have seen in the states. Layering and neutrals seem to be popular as well as long trench coat style jackets.
I came here not knowing a single person and am leaving with lifelong friends. I have one roommate and we became friends with four other girls and our little group of six has been taking in the city together each night. From cafes to clubs, we are exploring and living this once in a lifetime experience with each other.
Tomorrow starts a new week which means more streets to explore, restaurants to review, and coffee to drink.
